Wei Wei is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the Yale School of Public Health and Assistant Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology) at Yale Cancer Center. He serves as the Interim Director of Biostatistics Shared Resource at Yale Cancer Center. Dr. Wei received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the Medical University of South Carolina and joined Yale in 2017 as an associate research scientist before advancing to his current position.
Dr. Wei's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the Medical University of South Carolina (2016).
Wei Wei's research focuses on the development of early phase clinical trial designs, with particular interest in cancer targeted and immunotherapeutic agents. His research expertise also encompasses statistical genomics, biomarker discovery, and neurophysiology. His work bridges biostatistical methodology with practical applications in oncology, particularly in the design and analysis of clinical trials for novel cancer therapies. He has made significant contributions to Bayesian methods for dose optimization, platform trial designs, and the incorporation of external control data in randomized clinical trials.
His extensive publication record demonstrates expertise across multiple domains of cancer research, with particular emphasis on breast cancer, melanoma, head and neck cancer, and hematologic malignancies. His statistical methodology work focuses on addressing challenges in clinical trial design, particularly for immunotherapies and targeted agents where traditional statistical approaches may not be optimal.
- Clinical, sociodemographic, and facility-related determinants of immunotherapy use in metastatic triple-negative breast cancer
- Statistical considerations for evaluating treatment effect under various non-proportional hazard scenarios
- Propensity score weighted multi-source exchangeability models for incorporating external control data
- Bayesian model averaging for dose optimization in multiple indications
- Phase II Trial of Pembrolizumab in Combination With Bevacizumab for Untreated Melanoma Brain Metastases
Dr. Wei serves as a Grant Reviewer for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and participates in the Design and Implementation of Clinical Trials Workshop through Winn-AACR. His collaborative work spans numerous Yale colleagues including Harriet Kluger, MD (17 common publications), David Rimm, MD, PhD (12 common publications), and Amit Mahajan, MD (6 common publications).
Dr. Wei actively mentors graduate students including Jinping Liang, Michelle Song, Yunhe Liu, and Yunxuan Zhang. His research is supported by various grants and collaborations that enable his work in clinical trial methodology and cancer research applications.
