Lucia Jilaveanu is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in Medical Oncology with a focus on melanoma. She holds primary appointments in Medical Oncology and Hematology and is affiliated with Yale Cancer Center and Yale Medicine. Her academic work spans multiple departments including Genomics, Genetics, and Epigenetics.
Dr. Jilaveanu's research centers on laboratory-based clinical and translational studies in melanoma. Her primary interests include predictive and prognostic biomarkers, molecular biology techniques, and analytical technologies applied to metastatic melanoma. Most recently, her work has focused on understanding the biology of brain metastasis in melanoma patients, uncovering novel mediators of brain metastasis, and developing biomarkers for patients with melanoma that has spread to the brain. She has been involved in numerous correlative studies of novel therapeutic agents for metastatic melanoma.
Analysis of Dr. Jilaveanu's recent publications (2022-2025) reveals a strong focus on melanoma research with particular emphasis on brain metastasis mechanisms, biomarker discovery, and immunotherapy approaches. Her work spans both basic science investigations of molecular pathways and clinical trials of novel therapeutic combinations. Notably, she has published significant work on vascular mimicry in brain metastasis, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and biomarkers for melanoma progression.
Dr. Jilaveanu collaborates extensively with other Yale researchers including Harriet Kluger, Veronica Chiang, Robert Camp, David Rimm, Thuy Tran, and Mario Sznol. Her collaborative network spans medical oncology, neurosurgery, and immunology departments.
Dr. Jilaveanu maintains an active clinical research program at Yale Cancer Center where she contributes to advancing melanoma treatment protocols and developing personalized approaches for patients with metastatic disease, particularly those with challenging brain metastases.
