Professor Wei Shi is a Professor of Bioinformatics Research in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Monash University, and Scientific Director of the Monash Genomics and Bioinformatics Platform. Previously, he led laboratories at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute. His research focuses on developing advanced bioinformatics methods for RNA-seq data analysis, including tools like featureCounts, Subread, and Rsubread. These tools have been widely cited across scientific literature. His work addresses challenges in immunology, cancer, and infectious diseases, with contributions to top-tier journals like Nature, Science, and Immunity. He is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2018, 2020–2024) and ranked 6th globally for RNA-seq research (ScholarGPS).
Current projects include a collaborative study on asymptomatic malaria's immune responses. His lab's recent publications highlight innovations in single-cell transcriptomics, T cell exhaustion, and cancer immunology. Awards and recognition reflect his impact in advancing genomic analysis and clinical applications.
His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in health and disease mitigation.
