Ernest Lim is a Professor of Law and Vice-Dean (Faculty Development) at the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Law. He holds a DPhil (PhD) and BCL from the University of Oxford, an LLM from Harvard Law School, and an LLB from NUS. His legal qualifications include being an Attorney in New York, Solicitor in England & Wales, and Advocate & Solicitor in Singapore.
His research focuses on comparative corporate law, governance, sustainability, AI implications in law, fiduciary duties, and legal frameworks for social enterprises. He has authored three monographs with Cambridge University Press, including award-winning works on shareholders' fiduciary duties and sustainability mechanisms in Asia. He co-edits leading handbooks on private law and AI, and climate change law.
His work has been cited by Singapore's Court of Appeal and the UK Supreme Court. He holds the Robert S Campbell Visiting Fellowship at Magdalen College, Oxford, and has delivered distinguished lectures at the University of Hong Kong. Prior to academia, he practiced corporate law globally with Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP.
He currently teaches Company Law and advises on corporate governance matters. His research explores intersections between technology, sustainability, and legal systems, with a focus on Asian jurisdictions.
