Wang Lu is an Assistant Professor of Composition and Theory at Brown University. She is a composer and pianist whose works reflect Chinese opera and folk music traditions through contemporary instrumental techniques and new sonic possibilities. Her compositions have been performed internationally by renowned ensembles such as the Minnesota Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, and Ensemble Modern.
Her educational background includes a doctoral degree in composition from Columbia University (2012) and a degree with highest honors from the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music (2005).
Wang Lu's research and creative work focuses on the intersection of traditional Chinese music and contemporary composition. She explores how Chinese opera and folk music can be reimagined using modern techniques, creating cross-cultural musical dialogues that bridge Eastern and Western traditions. Her compositions often feature innovative sonic possibilities and have been presented at major festivals worldwide.
