Philippe Leroux is an Associate Professor specializing in Music Composition at McGill University's Schulich School of Music. He holds a prominent career in contemporary music composition, with works commissioned by institutions like IRCAM, the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, and the Ensemble Intercontemporain. His research focuses on symphonic, vocal, electronic, and chamber music. He has been a professor since 2011 and directs the Digital Composition Studios (DCS) laboratory.
Education: Studied at the Paris Conservatory under Ivo Malec, Claude Ballif, Pierre Schäeffer, and Guy Reibel, earning three first prizes. Further studies included classes with Olivier Messiaen, Franco Donatoni, Betsy Jolas, and Iannis Xénakis.
Research & Awards: His music is performed globally at festivals like Donaueschingen, Venice Biennale, and BBC Symphony Orchestra events. He has received prestigious awards, including the Royal Society of Canada fellowship (since 2015). His compositional output exceeds 80 works across various genres.
