Dr. Walter Busuttil is a Visiting Professor at the King’s Centre for Military Health Research (KCMHR) within King’s College London’s School of Academic Psychiatry, and serves as Director of Research and Training at Combat Stress. A retired Royal Air Force (RAF) Wing Commander, he holds extensive clinical and academic credentials in military mental health and trauma recovery. His career includes roles as Medical Director at Combat Stress (2007–2020), Medical Director of an all-women’s forensic hospital (2004–2007), and leadership in PTSD rehabilitation services post-Gulf War 1.
- Education: MBChB from University of Manchester (1983), RAF psychiatric training including time at The Maudsley and Oxford
Research focuses on PTSD/CPTSD, military veteran mental health, and translational research for trauma interventions. He pioneered clinical governance systems at Combat Stress and established national/international collaborations through the Five Eyes Mental Health Research Collaborative. His work bridges clinical practice with policy, advising UK and international military health bodies.
