Professor Neil Greenberg is a clinical and academic psychiatrist at King’s College London, specializing in occupational, adult, and forensic psychiatry. He served in the UK Armed Forces for 23 years, including deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. Currently, he leads the military mental health research team at the King’s Centre for Military Health Research (KCMHR) and chairs the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Special Interest Group in Occupational Psychiatry. His research focuses on military mental health, traumatic stress, and organizational trauma management. He co-founded March on Stress, a psychological health consultancy, and contributed to the World Psychiatric Association’s Position Statement on Mental Health in the Workplace.
Education: MBBS from Southampton University (1993). Military service included roles as a Royal Marines medic and completion of Arctic warfare training. Awards include the Gilbert Blane Medal (2008) and RCP Presidential Medal (2017). He advised on mental health during crises like 9/11, Bali bombings, and the London 2020 Nightingale Hospital. Key roles include Secretary of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and trustee of the Society of Occupational Medicine.
Research interests span occupational mental health, military veterans’ well-being, moral injury, and disaster mental health. Over 350 publications address PTSD, healthcare worker mental health, and veteran transition challenges. His intervention work includes the Restore and Rebuild program for moral injury and smartphone app trials for mental health support.
Recent articles highlight ADHD epidemiology, healthcare worker PTSD prevalence, and moral injury in veterans and healthcare staff. Awards include RCP Team of the Year (2021) for mental health initiatives.
