Dr. Laura Palmer is a Lecturer at the King’s Centre for Military Health Research (KCMHR) within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London. Her work focuses on military and forensic mental health, particularly cultural psychiatry and traumatic stress. She teaches modules including 'Geographies of trauma' for the MSc Global Mental Health and contributes to postgraduate courses.
Education:

- PhD in alcohol misuse among UK Armed Forces personnel – King’s College London (2015–present)
Research Interests: Laura employs mixed-methods approaches, combining epidemiological and qualitative analyses to explore cultural manifestations of trauma and mental health in military contexts. She investigates PTSD trajectories and phenomenology, and the intersection of anthropology with mental health challenges.
Professional Contributions: She leads the MSc War & Psychiatry module on extreme trauma in civilian contexts and supervises students across BSc, MSc, and MBBS programs. Laura co-founded the Arts & Conflict Hub, which uses artistic mediums to study and communicate conflict complexities.
Affiliations: Core member of the KCMHR, the UK’s leading civilian military health research center. Active in developing tools like the Military Service Identification Tool (MSIT) to identify veterans in healthcare systems.
