Dr. Vladlen Z Slepak is a Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology at the University of Miami. He holds a B.S. (1983) and M.S. from Moscow State University, USSR, and a Ph.D. (1988) from the Shemyakin Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry. After postdoctoral training at Caltech (1990–1995), he established his lab at the University of Miami in 1995, focusing on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in metabolism and cancer biology.
His research explores GPCR signaling mechanisms linking receptors to hormone secretion, obesity, diabetes, and cancer. Techniques include imaging, biosensors, and genetically modified mice. Recent projects investigate novel GPCR pathways in cancer cell death, particularly in prostate cancer.
Dr. Slepak has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles, including studies on olfactory receptor roles in cancer suppression and G-protein interactions. He has received the Dean’s Junior Faculty Laboratory Research Award and serves as a reviewer for journals like Biochemical Journal, Biochemistry, and Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences.
