Vivian Liddell is an Associate Professor of Visual Arts at the University of North Georgia (UNG), specializing in interdisciplinary art that integrates painting, fiber techniques, sculpture, and feminist theory. Her work critiques power structures, gender roles, and Southern cultural narratives. She actively contributes to UNG’s Gender Studies program, co-developing courses and advising student projects like the North Georgia Astronomical Observatory murals. Liddell holds an M.F.A. in Painting from Pratt Institute (2002), an M.S.T. in Education from Pace University (2008), and a B.F.A. in Photographic Design from the University of Georgia (1993).
Her research focuses on the male nude, feminist theory, and craft media, exploring themes of class and masculinity in the American South. Notable exhibitions include solo shows at the Lyndon House Arts Center (2024 Athens Landscapes) and collaborative projects like Raucous (2019). She received the 2021 Presidential Incentive Award for Innovation and was a 2020 Hopper Prize finalist.
Liddell curates an alternative gallery space in Athens and hosts the podcast Peachy Keen, discussing art and Southern culture. Her work spans mediums—from oil paintings and installations to animation and fiber-based sculptures—often blending humor and critique to engage broader audiences.
