Dr Vittorio Danovi is an Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow (2024–2026) at the University of Galway, affiliated with the Department of Classics within the College of Arts, Social Sciences, & Celtic Studies. His research focuses on the medieval reception of Vergil's works, particularly the Irish early-medieval Philargyrian corpus—a collection of commentaries on Vergil’s Eclogues and Georgics. This project investigates how ancient and medieval scholarly traditions intersected in Ireland and France, especially during the Carolingian cultural revival.
Mentored by Dr Pádraic Moran, his work seeks to redefine the historical trajectory of Vergilian exegesis and illuminate how annotated manuscripts functioned as knowledge-storage tools. The study bridges late-antique, medieval, and early-modern scholarly practices, emphasizing Ireland’s role in shaping continental intellectual history.
