Virginie Arantes

Virginie Arantes is a Research Fellow in Political Science, currently supported by the F.R.S.-FNRS postdoctoral fellowship. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. from the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB).

Dr. Arantes' research spans environmental politics, with a focus on Asia. Her previous work examined China's environmental governance, resulting in the book "China's Green Consensus" (2022), which explores authoritarian environmentalism and civil society dynamics. Currently, she investigates the influence of green nationalism on national identity formation in Southeast Asia, contributing to the understanding of sustainability transitions and governance in non-European contexts. Her holistic approach integrates political science, environmental studies, and area studies to analyze interactions between state actors, civil society, and environmental movements.
