Vilma Gabbay, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Neuroscience at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She serves as Director of Research at the Psychiatry Research Institute of Montefiore and Einstein. Her research focuses on the neurobiological and immunological mechanisms underlying mood and anxiety disorders in youth, particularly adolescent depression, reward deficits, and anhedonia. She investigates comorbidities between depression and substance use in people living with HIV, as well as neuropsychiatric consequences of COVID-19. Her work employs advanced techniques like functional MRI, MR spectroscopy, immunological assays, and clinical evaluations. She has also studied omega-3 fatty acids in treating adolescent depression and Tourette's Disorder. Dr. Gabbay holds a BMedSc and MD from Tel Aviv University, completed residencies at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and NYU School of Medicine, and earned an MS in Translational Medicine Research from NYU. She received the Resident Research Excellence Award and held the Leon Levy Fellowship at NYU Langone Health (2008–2012).
