Vien Chu

Dr. Vien Chu is a Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance at Newcastle Business School, University of Newcastle, within the College of Human and Social Futures. His research focuses on sustainable development, tax compliance of disadvantaged small businesses, and accountability mechanisms in not-for-profit organizations (NPOs). He holds a PhD (2015) and MPhil (2012) from Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Grants & Funding: Total $311,225 including a $7,400 AFAANZ grant (2022) and National Tax Clinic Program expansion ($287,615, 2025–2027). Active supervision of a PhD candidate examining NPO financial reporting readability.

Labs/Teams: Collaborates with Newcastle Business School research teams on NPO accountability and microenterprise development projects.
