Victoria Policastro Vega serves as Professor and Area Coordinator of Music Therapy within the Department of Music Therapy at Loyola University New Orleans' College of Music and Media. She previously held significant leadership positions including Coordinator of the Music Therapy Program (2000-2013) and Associate Dean of the College of Music and Fine Arts (2013-2017).
Her educational credentials include:
- Ph.D. from Temple University (studied under Dr. Kenneth Bruscia; third person nationally to earn Ph.D. in music therapy)
- M.M.T. from Loyola University New Orleans
- B.M. in Music Education from West Virginia University
Dr. Vega's research concentrates on music therapy applications for neurologic disorders, professional burnout among clinicians, and personality factors in therapeutic settings. She maintains active clinical work in New Orleans-area hospitals and rehabilitation centers focusing on neurology, while contributing to professional development through workshops at regional and national conferences.
Her distinguished recognition includes:

Dr. Vega demonstrates extensive organizational leadership through the American Music Therapy Association, having served two terms as South-Central Region Vice-President and President, plus national roles including National Executive Committee member, Council Coordinator for Professional Practices, Clinical Training and Education Committees member, Education and Training Advisory Board participant, Judicial Review Board member, and Assembly of Delegates representative.
