Victoria M. Massie is an Assistant Professor of Medical Anthropology at Rice University, with affiliations to the Center for African and African-American Studies, the Medical Humanities Program, the Center for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality, and the Science & Technology Studies Program. Her research focuses on the history of anthropological thought, medical anthropology, race & racialization, biocapitalism, and Black Feminist Science Studies, with fieldwork in Cameroon and the U.S.

- B.A. in Anthropology and African & African American Studies (University of Rochester)
Her work explores embodiment, genetic ancestry testing, chronic racialized stress, and postgenomics through creative ethnography. Supported by grants from the Mellon Foundation, NSF, and others, her scholarship bridges critical theory and creative writing. Key publications include Spillers's baby, anthropology's maybe: a postgenomic reckoning and analyses of affirmative action dynamics.

Dr. Massie advises on grants related to Black feminist science studies and biocapitalism, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. Her lab focuses on reimagining ethnographic methods to address 21st-century biological sciences and racial justice.
