Megan A. Carney is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Center for Regional Food Studies at the University of Arizona. Her work bridges medical anthropology, critical migration studies, and food systems research, with a focus on health equity, social inequality, and Black feminist methodologies. She has conducted research in the U.S., Sicily, and Mexico, addressing issues of migration, displacement, and solidarity economies. Her two acclaimed books, *The Unending Hunger* (2015) and *Island of Hope* (2021), explore food insecurity and Mediterranean migration, respectively, and have earned prestigious awards. Dr. Carney’s research has been supported by the Fulbright Schuman Program, Wenner-Gren Foundation, and USDA, among others.
Education: PhD and MA in Anthropology from UC Santa Barbara; BA in Anthropology and Italian from UCLA.
Research interests emphasize the intersection of food, climate, and migration; Black-led health initiatives; and antiracist, feminist methodologies. She regularly publishes in media outlets like *The Hill*, *Scientific American*, and *The Conversation*.
Her articles explore topics such as duo-ethnography, climate-food-migration linkages, and the microbial dimensions of social equity. Awards include the Public Voices Fellowship (2018-2019) and recognition for her scholarly contributions.
Dr. Carney teaches courses like *Anthropology of Food* and *Feminist Medical Anthropology Lab*, integrating Black Geographies and African diaspora studies. She leads the Dunbar Wellness Project and collaborates with community-based initiatives to advance food justice and health equity.
