Liliana Gil is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Studies at The Ohio State University. Her research focuses on Science and Technology Studies (STS), postcolonial and feminist epistemologies, and ethnographic methods. She examines technological improvisation in Brazil and transnational contexts, with a book project analyzing repair shops, innovation hubs, and self-built housing in São Paulo and Lisbon.
Education: PhD in Anthropology (The New School), MSc in Medical Anthropology (University of Coimbra with visiting research at UC Berkeley). Previously held a Lecturer position at the National University of Singapore. Her work has been supported by the Fulbright Program, Wenner-Gren Foundation, NSF, and ACLS.
Research interests include design, innovation, repair practices, digital futures, and art-science intersections. Her articles explore peripheral innovation ecosystems, repair entrepreneurship, and methodological responsibilities in applied research. She emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and supporting first-generation scholars.
