Dr. Victoria Gillan is an Affiliate Researcher at the University of Glasgow's School of Biodiversity, One Health & Veterinary Medicine, specializing in parasitic nematode biology and host-parasite interactions. Her research examines molecular mechanisms in nematode infections, focusing on microRNA regulation of parasite gene expression and Hsp90 as a therapeutic target.
Her work spans fundamental and translational parasitology, including characterization of extracellular vesicles in Theileria infections, tuft cell responses to parasites, and molecular basis of anthelmintic resistance. Recent studies investigate secreted helminth microRNAs that suppress host gut immunity and their potential applications in therapeutic development. She employs diverse models including filarial nematodes, bovine Theileria infections, and mouse models of parasitic disease.
Dr. Gillan has made significant contributions to understanding heat shock protein biology in nematodes, developing repurposing strategies for Hsp90 inhibitors against filarial parasites. Her current research explores small RNA technologies for parasite control and molecular regulators of host immune responses to helminth infections.
