David Abraham, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at the College of Life Sciences in Philadelphia, PA. His research program investigates fundamental mechanisms of host-parasite interactions, with dual focus on: 1) Elucidating molecular pathways by which eosinophils, neutrophils and macrophages mediate immunity against nematode infections, and 2) Developing multivalent vaccines against parasitic helminths including Onchocerca volvulus (river blindness) and Strongyloides stercoralis through strategic combination of recombinant antigens and novel adjuvants.
Research domains span:
- Immunoparasitology: Innate/adaptive immunity to helminths
- Vaccine development: Preclinical models for parasitic diseases
- Molecular pathogenesis: Host immune evasion mechanisms
- Translational medicine: Bridging animal models to human applications
His recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on vaccine development against filarial parasites, employing rodent, bovine and non-human primate models to evaluate vaccine efficacy, immune protection durability, and infection dynamics. Research consistently integrates parasitology with immunology and vaccinology approaches.
Dr. Abraham leads an active research laboratory investigating these areas and maintains collaborative networks through the Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) ecosystem.
