Dr. Victoria Davenport is the Associate Head of Department for Biological and Biomedical Sciences at the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol. She holds a Senior Lecturer position and serves as Programme Leader for the FdSc Healthcare Science degree and Program Manager for Postgraduate Research Training. Her roles include Postgraduate Tutor and Module Leader for courses in Applied Immunology, Immunology, and Advanced Life Sciences.
Education: BSc (Hons) Biology from the University of Nottingham, PhD in Photobiology from Imperial College London, Postdoc at the University of Bristol focusing on Neisseria immunity. A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy with a PGCert (Distinction) in Higher Education.
Research focuses on innate immune protection against respiratory pathogens (e.g., Neisseria meningitidis), mucosal immunity mechanisms, and the pathology of polymyalgia rheumatica. Collaborations include an 8-year industry-funded project on UV damage and sunscreen efficacy using human skin explants.
Teaching expertise spans undergraduate/postgraduate immunology, program management, and innovative pedagogy. Awards include FHEA and PGCert distinction.
Grants and advising: Manages postgraduate research training programs and leads interdisciplinary initiatives in mucosal immunity. Active in vaccine research and clinical engineering education.
