Dr. Adam Dale is an Associate Professor in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Southampton Controlled Human Infection Group (CHIG). He also serves as an Honorary Consultant at University Hospital Southampton, specializing in transplant-associated infections. His research focuses on immunological mechanisms protecting against respiratory pathobionts like Neisseria meningitidis and Bordetella pertussis, developing mucosal immune response tools, and vaccine testing using human challenge models. He holds a PhD from the University of Southampton (2021) and completed clinical training in the UK’s Wessex Deanery. Current projects include evaluating Neisseria lactamica’s role in cross-reactive immunity and vaccine efficacy testing via CHIG’s Bordetella pertussis model. Dr. Dale collaborates with industry partners like Moderna Inc. and leads the infection theme in the undergraduate medicine curriculum.
Education: MBChB (University of Leeds, 2010), PhD (University of Southampton, 2021).
Key Roles: NIHR Clinical Lecturer, Wellcome Trust Fellow, Principal Investigator in CHIG.
Research Highlights: Pioneered studies on N. lactamica’s immune-modulating effects, contributed to first-in-human trials of recombinant bacterial vaccines, and led projects defining B. pertussis immune correlates. Current funding includes Moderna’s doctoral fellowship program.
