Dr Alison Hill is a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Controlled Human Challenge Group (CHIG). Her work focuses on immunological mechanisms protecting against upper respiratory tract infections, particularly Bordetella pertussis and Neisseria lactamica, with applications to vaccine design. She holds a BSc in Biomedical Science from the University of Warwick and a PhD from the University of Southampton, where she studied in vitro models of asthma-related airway interactions.
Her research employs controlled human infection models to identify immune biomarkers and assess vaccine efficacy. Notable contributions include advancing methodologies for detecting cellular immune responses and deconvoluting mechanisms of live attenuated vaccines. Key achievements include publications in Science Translational Medicine, The Lancet Microbe, and Journal of Clinical Investigation.
Honors include the British Association for Lung Research Travel Award (2016) and European Respiratory Society Travel Award (2015). Her current work explores recombinant commensal bacteria as potential vaccine antigen delivery systems.
