Aimee Kibondo is a Senior Lecturer in Bioscience at the University of Sunderland. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences and a PhD in Immunology from the University of Sunderland. Her doctoral research investigated the role of heparinoids as immune modulators in organ preservation solutions. Previously, she worked as a Research Assistant, Research Associate, and Academic Tutor.

Research Interests: Aimee’s work focuses on inflammation mechanisms, Ischaemia Reperfusion Injury, and microbial characterization. She employs techniques including tissue culture, gene expression analysis (q-PCR), ELISA, flow cytometry, and microbiology. Her research bridges immunological processes with clinical applications in organ preservation and microbial identification.
Teaching & Supervision: Module leader for Microbes and Host Defences (HCS114) and Clinical and Professional Practice (HCS106). Supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, including stage 2 dissertations, MSc Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Formulations projects, and co-supervises a PhD in Nursing and Health Sciences. Committed to fostering academic practice, she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
