Professor Vicky Hunter is a Visiting Research Fellow in Site Dance and PhD supervisor at Bath Spa University's School of Music and Performing Arts. She leads the AHRC-funded 'Dancing Otherwise' network and is part of the Ecotones research project. Formerly Head of the MA Choreography programme at the University of Chichester, her research focuses on transdisciplinary site dance, post-human feminism, eco-somatic awareness, and environmental choreography.
Education includes a PhD in site-specific choreography from the University of Leeds (2009), MA in Performance Studies (2001), PGCE in Dance (1998), and BA in Performing Arts (1994). She has held academic roles at the University of Leeds, LIPA, Fonty’s Academy, and the University of Surrey.
Her research groups include 'Creative Practice and Embodied Knowledge' (with Michelle Elliott) and 'Environment and Experience.' Key publications include Site, Dance and Body (2021), Moving Sites (2015), and edited volumes on site-specific performance. Her practice-based works explore human-environment synergies through material intra-actions.
Grants include leadership of the AHRC 'Dancing Otherwise' network and participation in Ecotones. She advises PhD students and collaborates internationally, co-authoring works with scholars like Amanda Bayley and Melanie Kloetzel.
Her work bridges choreography, ecology, and critical theory, with projects like A Holding Space (2021) and Dance Site and Body (2018) exemplifying interdisciplinary engagement with environmental and spatial themes.
