Veronica Norando

Dr. Veronica Norando is a historian specializing in 20^th-century women’s history, feminist movements, and gender-based violence. She holds a Ph.D. in History with a specialization in Gender Studies from the Universidad de Buenos Aires. Previously an Assistant Professor there for 14+ years, she is now a guest lecturer at Carleton University’s Department of History, collaborating with the Institute of Political Economy and Latin American Studies Program. Her work integrates Feminist Political Economy and intersectional frameworks, analyzing how gender, class, and labor systems interact. Current research focuses on Latin American feminist movements addressing gender-based violence through a Political Economy lens, proposing a unified theory of capital-patriarchy entanglement.

Research focuses on working-class women’s labor experiences, social reproduction theories, and feminist resistance strategies. She has published extensively, including the acclaimed book Rojas: Clase, género y militancia comunista (2021), which re-examines 1930s-40s Argentine textile workers’ activism. Her work bridges theory and practice, challenging traditional Marxist and feminist paradigms.

Publications reflect her interdisciplinary approach, combining historical analysis with contemporary social theory. She actively participates in international academic networks, serving as a reviewer for Colombia’s COLCIENCIAS and Women’s World Banking Foundation. Awards include the 2018 Universidad de Buenos Aires Excellence Award.

As a mentor, she has supervised research assistants and students at multiple institutions. Currently, she invites collaborative inquiries and graduate supervision at Carleton University.
