Dr. Verity Bennett is a Research Fellow at Cardiff University's School of Computing and Informatics and School of Social Sciences, affiliated with the Centre for Social Care and Artificial Intelligence and Learning (SCALE) and the Children's Social Care Research and Development Centre (CASCADE). Her research focuses on multi-agency approaches to child protection, leveraging machine learning, computer vision, and injury interpretation to enhance decision-making tools for professionals. She holds a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from University College London, an MSc in Biomechanics from the University of Manchester, and a BSc in Geography and Geology from the University of Manchester.
Her work includes evaluating interventions like the Social Workers in Schools (SWIS) Trial and Police in Schools programs, funded by the Youth Endowment Fund and Department for Education. She has contributed to projects addressing child burns, behavioral interventions, and healthcare data analysis for cerebral palsy. Bennett collaborates across disciplines, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to address safeguarding challenges and improve child welfare outcomes.
Key research areas include child maltreatment detection, early intervention strategies, and the application of AI in social services. She has published extensively on topics ranging from clinical prediction tools for abuse identification to Schwartz Round implementations for staff wellbeing. Bennett is actively involved in teaching social work research methods and supervising postgraduate students.
