Verica Trstenjak is a Professor for European Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna (since 2013), an External scientific member at the Max Planck Institute for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law in Luxembourg (since 2012), and an Interim judge at the Civil Service Tribunal of the EU (since 2013). Her academic career includes leadership roles at the University of Maribor, Slovenia, where she served as Full Professor (2006–2012), Professor (2001–2006), and Associate Professor (1996–2001).
- Education: Doctor of Law (1995), Master of Law (1991), and Diploma (1985) from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Her research focuses on European private law, consumer protection, EU constitutional and procedural law, civil law, NGOs, and European intellectual property law, including EU copyright frameworks. She has led major projects like the European Law Institute’s Fondatio europaea, the Common European Sales Law (CESL) initiative, and a study on unfair business-to-business trading practices.
Trstenjak has been recognized as Jurist of the Year 2003 in Slovenia. Her professional experience spans judicial roles at the Court of Justice of the EU (Advocate General, 2006–2012) and the Court of First Instance of the European Communities (Judge, 2004–2006), alongside high-level governmental roles in Slovenia.
