Burkhard Hess is a prominent academic in law, currently serving as Executive Director at the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law since September 2012. He has held distinguished professorial roles at Heidelberg University (Director, Institute for Private International and Economic Law, 2003-2012), University of Tübingen (Chair in Civil Law, Civil Procedure, Private International Law and International Procedural Law, 1996-2003), and University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Professor of Civil and Procedural Law, 1995-1996). He studied law at Universities of Würzburg, Lausanne, and Munich, graduating in 1990.
