Dr. Vandra Harris Agisilaou is a Senior Lecturer in International Development at RMIT University's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies (GUSS). Her research focuses on humanitarian spaces, civil-military engagement, and ethical practices in development. She has led projects funded by institutions like the Australian Civil-Military Centre, exploring topics such as NGO-military interactions and humanitarian ethics. Her recent work includes a study on life course perspectives in development (Sierra Leone) and a collaboration on community policing in Pakistan. She maintains strong industry ties through NGO partnerships and serves on ethics committees like the International Humanitarian Studies Association's Ethics Working Group.
Research Interests: International Development, Political Science, Applied Ethics, Civil-Military-Police Engagement, Humanitarian Practice, and Security Studies. She supervises PhD topics ranging from governance in Somaliland to gender-based violence in humanitarian contexts. Her teaching includes courses on global ethics and disaster management.
Advising & Grants: Active in mentoring over a dozen PhD candidates on topics like pro-poor decentralization in Ghana and Chinese-Zimbabwe relations. Engaged in collaborative projects with NGOs and government bodies, focusing on ethical frameworks for development practices. Editor of the Journal of Global Ethics and member of the International Development Ethics Association's executive board.
Labs/Teams: Involved in RMIT's interdisciplinary research on sustainable development goals, particularly SDGs 1 (No Poverty), 5 (Gender Equality), and 16 (Peace, Justice). Active in global ethics networks and policy advisory roles for Australian foreign affairs initiatives.
