Valérie Demange is a CNRS Research Director at ISCR (Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes), CSM team, Université de Rennes. She has been working as a CNRS Researcher since 2008 and obtained her Research Direction Habilitation in 2020.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Materials Science at UMR 7584 Laboratoire de Science et Génie des Matériaux Métalliques (LSG2M), INPL, Nancy (1998-2001)
- Post-Doctoral fellow at Ernst Ruska Center, Jülich, Germany (2001-2002)
- Previous position as CNRS Researcher at UMR 7570 Laboratoire de Science et Génie des Surfaces (LSGS), Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine (INPL), Nancy (2003-2008)
Dr. Demange's research focuses on materials science, particularly thin film deposition and characterization techniques. Her work encompasses epitaxial growth of complex oxides, synthesis of 2D materials, and advanced microscopy and diffraction techniques. She utilizes Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS), Energy-Filtered TEM (EFTEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), and High-Resolution X-ray Diffraction (HRXRD) in her research.
She leads significant scientific infrastructure at the university, serving as Head of the Themis platform (TEM) and Osirix platform (HRXRD) under UAR 2025 ScanMAT. Her research portfolio includes 21 academic projects and 4 industrial projects.
Dr. Demange is actively involved in teaching and supervision:
- Transmission Electron Microscopy courses for Materials Engineering students at ESIR
- Synthesis and characterisation of thin films for Master Nanosciences 2 program
- Supervision of 2 post-doctoral fellows, 9 PhD students, 4 engineers, 10 Master 2 students, and 11 undergraduate students
