Valtis Barkāns is a professional sculptor and faculty member at the Sculpture Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts since 1997. He holds a Master's degree in Sculpture from the same institution. His career spans over 35 years, combining artistic creation with teaching. He founded the Power and Beauty Sculpting Group and organizes annual stone sculpture symposiums with Ogre municipality. His work includes over 100 monumental stone sculptures displayed in cities like Ogre and Jurmala.
Education: Master's in Sculpture (Latvian Academy of Arts, 1997), Graduate of Riga Design and Art High School (1988). He also served as Head of Sculpture Department at Riga Design and Art High School (1996–2003).
Research interests focus on material experimentation (bronze, stone) and public art installations. He collaborates with private clients and municipalities, emphasizing site-specific works. Teaching spans sculptural techniques, portrait modeling, and preparatory courses for art academy entrance exams.
He leads summer sculpture projects with students from the Latvian Academy of Arts, promoting community engagement in artistic practices. His studio offers specialized training in portrait sculpting and figure modeling, with courses structured for beginners and advanced learners.
