Valerio Terraroli is a Full Professor at the Department of Cultures and Civilizations, University of Verona, specializing in Art History with focus on ARTE-01/D - Museology and Art and Restoration Criticism. His academic work spans multiple research areas within cultural heritage, art history, and museology.
His primary research interests include:
- 18th century artistic culture in the Lombard-Venetian area, with focus on sculpture and monumental painting
- Eclectic architecture and symbolist culture in Italy and Europe (late 19th to early 20th century)
- History of decorative arts from the 18th to mid-20th century, including Art Nouveau, Italian Liberty style, Art Deco, and Novecentismo
- History of critical sources regarding changing tastes and styles
- History of art collecting, particularly in the early 20th century and its musealization
Professor Terraroli teaches multiple courses including History of Art Criticism, History of Artistic Literature, History of Decorative Arts, and Museography and Museology across Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Cultural Heritage and History of the Arts.
He directs the Research Center 'Rossana Bossaglia for Decorative Arts, Graphics, and Arts of the Modern and Contemporary Age' and the Integrated Laboratories of the Department since 2018. His research is organized through several research groups including 'Digital Archive for Decorative Arts,' 'Detached Frescoes: Restoration and Conservation,' and 'Profane Painting from the Baroque to Neoclassical Period in Northern Italy.'
