Valerie Lorig serves as a Lecturer in the Psychology Department at Naropa University, where she has taught the BA Psychology and BA Psychology Online programs since 2008. A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with an MEd in Counseling and BA in Transpersonal Psychology, she integrates clinical practice with contemplative education.

Her research centers on trauma psychology, emphasizing Attachment Theory, ACEs, and intergenerational trauma through mindfulness-based somatic approaches. She specializes in Hakomi Somatic Therapy, Brainspotting, and EMDR, connecting Buddhist psychology with clinical practice to explore post-traumatic growth and trauma-sensitive mindfulness. Her work bridges Western psychotherapy with Eastern contemplative traditions.

Ms. Lorig maintains an active psychotherapy practice (Auspicious Coincidence Counseling) treating individuals and couples, which directly informs her curriculum development for courses like The Psychology of Mindfulness Meditation and Learning From Trauma. She has led international meditation retreats across four countries and previously held design roles at Rolling Stone Magazine and Silverwave Records, leveraging her arts background to enhance therapeutic pedagogy.
