Mica Graves serves as Assistant Professor and Chair of the Nature-Based Transpersonal Counseling concentration at Naropa University's Graduate School of Counseling. A licensed professional counselor (LPC) with clinical expertise in equine and wilderness therapy, she integrates transpersonal psychology with nature-based interventions to foster client belonging and healing.
Her academic credentials include:
- MA in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology, Wilderness Therapy Track (Naropa University, 2008)
- BA in History (University of Colorado, 1999)
Dr. Graves specializes in trauma recovery through equine-assisted modalities, particularly for adopted individuals and neurodiverse clients. Her clinical work extends to brain injury rehabilitation, physical impairment counseling, and strength-based interventions for Denver's unhoused population. She emphasizes collective healing models drawn from her farm upbringing, utilizing group counseling and cohort-based learning structures.
Her therapeutic training encompasses EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Natural Lifemanship, and pre/perinatal development. As concentration chair, she directs equine therapy programs and therapeutic camps while teaching core courses including Counseling and Helping Relationships, Group Counseling, and Foundations of Nature-Based Counseling.
