Eric Eichler is a Visiting Lecturer at Naropa University, affiliated with the MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs. He holds an MSW from Smith College School for Social Work (2012) and a BA from Colby College (2003). His academic work integrates Buddhist contemplative practices with clinical mental health, specializing in mindfulness-based approaches and transpersonal counseling. He has extensive experience in psychosocial rehabilitation, trauma therapy (PTSD), and counseling for psychosis-spectrum disorders.

His research interests focus on the intersection of mindfulness, Buddhist psychology, and clinical practice. He has contributed to training programs in psychosocial rehabilitation and serves as a field instructor for social work students. Beyond academia, he provides crisis mental health services at the VA Eastern Colorado Healthcare System and maintains a private psychotherapy practice.
Eric’s professional background includes wilderness guiding and over two decades of Buddhist meditation practice, including training in Vipassana, Zen, and Vajrayana traditions. He currently teaches courses such as The Mindful Counselor and Diagnostic Psychopathology at Naropa.
