Valentina Gosetti is an Associate Professor in French at the University of New England (UNE), affiliated with the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. She holds an ARC DECRA Fellowship (2021-2024) for her project on provincial poets in 19th-century France. Previously, she was a Junior Research Fellow at St Anne’s College, Oxford, and taught at Trinity and Balliol Colleges. Her research focuses on marginalized literary voices, women’s poetry, and minority language preservation through translation.
Education: Diploma di Laurea (University of Bologna), MSt and DPhil (University of Oxford). She also studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and interned at UNESCO.
Research emphasizes revaluing provincial poets and challenging central-peripheral divides. Major grants include $333k from ARC DECRA and multiple Open World Research Initiative grants for multilingual poetry translation projects. Awards include the 2017 School of Arts Teaching Award and a CARES nomination (2019).
She edits the Cambridge Introduction to Women’s Poetry in French and co-leads the “Romanticism and After in France” book series. Her blog Transferre promotes poetry translation for minority language preservation. Professional roles span editorial boards for journals like Australian Journal of French Studies and the Society of Dix-neuviémistes.
