Prof. V. Subramanya Sarma is a Professor at the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras. His research focuses on grain boundary engineering (GBE), microstructure-property correlations, and thermomechanical processing of metallic materials, particularly Ni-based superalloys, stainless steels, and Al alloys. He has led numerous sponsored projects, including studies on creep resistance, hot corrosion, and nanocrystalline materials, and has received multiple awards such as the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and the Institute Research & Development Award (IIT Madras).
- Research Interests: Grain boundary engineering, thermomechanical processing, fatigue behavior, corrosion/oxidation resistance, ultrafine-grained materials.
- Education: Ph.D. and M.Tech. from IIT Madras (1999, 1994), AMIIM (1991), D.Met.E (1989).
Recent Publications highlight his work on abnormal grain growth, grain boundary effects in stainless steels, and deformation mechanisms in Mn steels and Ni alloys. His scientific awards include 16 national and international recognitions.
