Univ.-Prof. Dr. Uwe Rösler serves as Professor and Deputy Head of the FAO Reference Center for Antimicrobial Resistance (FAO RC AMR) at the Institute for Animal Hygiene and Environmental Health within the School of Veterinary Medicine, Free University of Berlin. His academic leadership focuses on international antimicrobial resistance surveillance and policy development in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
Dr. Rösler's research centers on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) dynamics in veterinary contexts, with specific emphasis on zoonotic pathogen transmission, livestock management implications, and environmental contamination pathways. His work integrates veterinary public health frameworks with One Health approaches to address resistance emergence in food-producing animals and companion species. As a core contributor to the Veterinary Centre for Resistance Research (TZR) inaugurated April 26, 2022, he drives translational research bridging laboratory findings with field applications.
The FAO RC AMR under his deputy leadership functions as a global reference hub for AMR monitoring, providing technical guidance to national authorities and developing standardized methodologies for resistance tracking across agricultural ecosystems. Current initiatives include proteomics-based resistance mechanism characterization through the TZR's newly established laboratory facilities.
