Prof. Jaap Wagenaar is Chair of Clinical Infectiology at Utrecht University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Biomolecular Health Sciences (Infectious Diseases & Immunology). He holds a PhD from Utrecht University and USDA-National Animal Diseases Center. His research focuses on antimicrobial resistance, Campylobacter, and One Health capacity building. He directs the WHO Collaborating Center for Campylobacter/AMR and the WOAH-Reference Laboratory for Campylobacteriosis.
Research interests span antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, zoonotic disease epidemiology, veterinary public health, and global One Health initiatives. His work integrates genomics, field surveillance, and policy advocacy to reduce antimicrobial use in livestock.
Publications emphasize antimicrobial resistance in livestock, genomic epidemiology of pathogens (Campylobacter, E. coli, Influenza), and veterinary public health interventions. Trends include farm-level AMU risk analyses, genomic surveillance of emerging resistance, and One Health frameworks.

He advises the WHO-Global Foodborne Infections Network, European Commission AMR One Health Network, Fleming Fund, and ICARS. As Quadripartite Technical Group Co-Chair (WHO/FAO/WOAH/UNEP), he shapes global AMR surveillance strategies.
Leads interdisciplinary teams at Utrecht Exposome Hub and collaborates with international agencies (WHO, FAO, WOAH) on AMR policy and capacity building.
