Roosmarijn Luiken

Dr. Roosmarijn Luiken is a Researcher at Utrecht University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology. She holds a PhD from Utrecht University (2021) where her doctoral research focused on antimicrobial resistance determinants in farm environments. Her expertise spans veterinary epidemiology, microbiome analysis, and antimicrobial resistance in a One Health context.

Her research investigates:

• Microbiome and resistome dynamics in livestock (poultry, pigs, veal calves) and wildlife (harbor seals, horses)
• Antimicrobial stewardship interventions in European farming systems
• Transmission pathways of antimicrobial resistance genes in agricultural environments
• Impact of hospitalization and antimicrobial treatment on animal microbiomes

Publications demonstrate strong focus on metagenomic analysis of farm dust, feces, and bioaerosols across European countries, with recent expansion into marine mammal AMR. Research consistently addresses policy-relevant questions about antimicrobial use reduction and AMR mitigation.
