Professor Jane Heller is a veterinary epidemiologist at Charles Sturt University, affiliated with the Agricultural, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences school in Wagga Wagga. Her work focuses on infectious diseases, zoonotic pathogen transfer, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and Q fever. She holds qualifications from the University of Newcastle (BSc), University of Sydney (BVSc, DipVetClinStud, MVetClinStud), and University of Glasgow (PhD), with professional certifications in Veterinary Public Health (DiplECVPH) and Veterinary Epidemiology (MANZCVS).
Her research emphasizes social and behavioral factors influencing disease prevention, including veterinary education and community engagement. Co-founder of the AMR Vet Collective and VetAMS.org, she promotes AMR stewardship through global training programs. Key projects include analyzing Q fever outbreaks, antimicrobial usage in dairy farming, and tick paralysis prevention in companion animals.
Recent publications (2022–2025) explore topics like equine pregnancy failure, veterinarian knowledge of Q fever, and stakeholder participation in syndromic surveillance. She collaborates internationally on zoonotic disease control and has advised on biosecurity policies for livestock sectors in Australia and South Asia.
