Prof. Ute Hörner is a Professor of Multispecies Storytelling at the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (Academy of Media Arts Cologne). Her work explores human-animal-machine relationships through installations, videos, and sculptures. She collaborates with grey parrots Clara and Karl via the CMUK interspecies project since 2014. Key affiliations include the exMedia Lab and participation in the Minding Animals network.
Educated in sculpture and media art, Hörner directed Videonale 8 (1996) and previously taught at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design (1998–2008). Her research critiques social constructs while proposing utopian interaction frameworks, often blending art with ecological and ethical concerns.
Awards include Kunststiftung NRW (2015) and Prix Ars Electronica Honorary Mention (2012). Recent publications focus on multispecies narratives, interspecies collaboration methods, and decolonial ecological frameworks. She co-leads the Multispecies Storytelling seminar series exploring gift economies, decolonial methodologies, and ethical storytelling practices.
