Dr Uta Staiger is an Associate Professor of European Studies and Director of the UCL European Institute, a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. She serves as UCL’s Pro-Vice-Provost (Europe) and Global Strategic Academic Advisor on Europe, shaping UCL’s European engagement strategies. Her roles include advising on Brexit mitigation, Russia-Ukraine war responses, and European policy initiatives.
Uta holds degrees from Cambridge, Edinburgh, Girona, and Konstanz universities. Her research explores intersections of European politics, culture, and thought, focusing on crisis in liberal democracies, Hannah Arendt’s theories, political performance, and Brexit’s impacts. She teaches across three UCL faculties and contributes to interdisciplinary projects on European integration.
Her scholarly work includes a 2022 Global Policy special issue on Brexit futures, a 2021 analysis of British negotiation tactics, and a 2018 edited volume on post-Brexit Europe. Awards include Senior Fellowships at Surrey University and Royal Society of Arts membership.
Uta advises UCL leadership on European matters and chairs key committees like the Russell Group EU Advisory Group. She bridges academic research with policy through strategic initiatives and institutional responses to geopolitical challenges.
