Una D'Elia is a Professor and Graduate Chair at Queen's University's Department of Art History and Art Conservation. A specialist in Italian Renaissance art, she has authored award-winning works on Titian, Michelangelo, and Raphael, and co-authored an open-access database on Renaissance Polychrome Sculpture in Tuscany. Her research explores intersections between art and literature, allegorical imagery, and the materiality of Renaissance sculptures.
Her recent research focuses on polychrome sculpture in fifteenth-century Tuscany, examining Donatello's colorful sculptures and their engagement with Renaissance viewers. Her publications span topics including grotesque painting, anatomical allegories, and the symbolic use of color in sculpture.
Key trends in her scholarly output include interdisciplinary approaches connecting visual arts with literary theory, material culture analysis, and reinterpretation of classical motifs in Renaissance contexts. Her work frequently addresses how art interacts with social and religious dynamics.
