Professor Jodi Cranston is a faculty member at Boston University's History of Art & Architecture department, serving as Director of Undergraduate Studies. Specializing in Renaissance Art with a focus on Venetian culture, she holds a B.A. from Yale University and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Her research integrates material culture analysis with digital humanities, exemplified by her projects Mapping Titian and Mapping Paintings, supported by grants like the Kress Foundation's Digital Art History Award.
Her scholarly contributions include landmark works such as Green Worlds of Renaissance Venice (2019), which won the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation Book Prize, and Animal Sightings (2024). She has held prestigious fellowships including the ACLS Ryskamp Fellowship and RSA grants. Cranston’s work bridges traditional art historical scholarship with innovative digital methodologies, emphasizing provenance studies and interdisciplinary approaches to Renaissance visual culture.
