Professor Sarah Gwyneth Ross is a Professor of History at Boston College, specializing in Early Modern Europe with a focus on humanism, women’s studies, and cultural history. Her research explores Renaissance Italy, particularly Venice, examining marginalized voices in education and cultural production. She holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University and has been supported by prestigious institutions like the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation and Harvard’s Villa I Tatti. Ross’s notable works include Everyday Renaissances (2016) and The Birth of Feminism (2009), which investigate women’s intellectual contributions and cultural legitimacy in Renaissance society.
Her current projects center on the Andreini family of commedia dell’arte performers, analyzing their navigation of Counter-Reformation censorship and patronage networks.
