Ulrike Zeshan is a Professor and Director at the International Institute for Sign Languages and Deaf Studies at the University of Central Lancashire (UK). Her career spans over two decades, with research focused on sign language typology, multilingualism, and language endangerment.

Her research addresses critical issues in sign languages, including documentation of endangered sign languages (e.g., Mardin Sign Language in Turkey) and multilingual behaviors in sign language users. She has secured significant grants, including an ERC project (2011–2016) and ELDP funding (2010–2013).
Ulrike Zeshan has held academic consulting roles at institutions like the Indian Sign Language Cell (Mumbai) and has contributed to organizations such as UNESCO and the Foundation for Endangered Languages. She is a series editor for Sign Language Typology and Sign Languages and Deaf Communities (De Gruyter Mouton).
She is fluent in multiple languages, including German, English, Dutch, French, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, and Indian, Turkish, and British Sign Languages.
