Ulrike Marx

Ulrike Marx is a Lecturer in Accounting at Queen Mary University of London's School of Business and Management, Department of Accounting and Financial Management. She joined in 2022 after roles at the University of Leicester, University of Essex, University of Innsbruck, and Berlin School of Economics and Law. Her academic journey includes a diploma in Accounting and a PhD in Management Accounting focusing on gender budgeting through a governmentality lens.

Her research emphasizes social studies of accounting, exploring how accounting practices respond to societal crises and political challenges. Key areas include gender budgeting as a tool for equality, wellbeing measurement, and feminist critiques of accounting. She contributes to interdisciplinary fields merging organization theory, feminist philosophy, and science studies to drive social change.

Ulrike teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on management accounting, corporate financial reporting, and theoretical accounting frameworks. Her pedagogy integrates active learning with technical expertise, fostering critical thinking and professional accreditation readiness. She has pioneered modules on non-profit accounting, environmental reporting, and social accountability.
